Meridian LabsShopify accessibility audits

Can every customer buy from your store?

Find the accessibility problems in your Shopify store before your customers do. Tested by a person, not just a scanner.

  • Launch price US$395
  • List price US$495
  • Report in 5 business days

You pay after you get the report. If we don't find a real issue on these pages, you don't pay at all.

What we do

  • We shop your store with only a keyboard, the way many people have to.

  • We listen to it with screen readers, the way many blind customers shop.

  • We tell you what to fix first, and where it lives in your theme.

Try it: press Tab on your product page. Can you pick a size and reach Add to cart?

Why store owners pick us

  • One fixed price, on this page. No quote to chase and no sales call.

  • Your report arrives within 5 business days.

  • Every issue is checked by hand. No overlays, no scanner-only reports.

  • You pay after you get the report, and one re-check is free.

Two ways to read this. Same audit.

The plain version is for you. The detailed version is for your developer or whoever looks after your theme.

Plain version

  • We test your whole shopping path: home, a collection, a product, your cart and the start of checkout, plus the menu, header, footer and pop-ups on every page.

  • We zoom in and use a phone-sized screen to check nothing gets cut off.

  • We check prices, text and buttons are easy to see.

  • You get a report with a picture of every problem and how to fix it in Shopify.

  • When you have fixed things, we check again, free.

Detailed version

Benchmark
WCAG 2.2, Level A and AA.
Pages
Home page, one collection page, one product page, cart, and checkout entry (up to the payment step), plus the header, menu, footer and pop-ups that appear on every page. Desktop and mobile.
Manual testing
  • Keyboard only: reach and use every control, focus order, visible focus, no traps in menus, drawers or pop-ups
  • Screen readers: VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS; NVDA on Windows
  • Zoom to 200% and reflow at 320 px wide
  • Color contrast of text, prices, buttons and focus indicators, measured
  • Variant pickers, add to cart messages, cart quantity controls and form labels
Automated scan
axe-core at desktop (1280 px) and mobile (390 px) widths, as a starting point. Every result is checked by hand and false positives are removed.
Each issue records
A screenshot, where it is, who it affects, the WCAG 2.2 success criterion, steps to reproduce, and Shopify fix steps: which theme file or setting, which app, or which content in your Shopify admin.
Priority
Issues are prioritized so you fix whatever blocks a purchase first.
Your store
We test the public store like a customer would. We don't need your Shopify admin, and we never place orders or enter payment details.

All prices in US dollars. The price is fixed for the shopping path shown. Bigger store? Extra page templates (for example search, your account pages or a custom landing page) are US$95 each, and we can quote your whole site in writing before we start. Our audit terms come with the invoice.

Why this matters for a US store

People who use screen readers, keyboards or zoom shop online like everyone else. If they can't choose a size or find the cart, they leave.

It is also a legal question. In the US, claims that a website shuts out people with disabilities are usually brought under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and online stores are the most common target. Seyfarth Shaw counted 3,117 website accessibility lawsuits filed in federal court in 2025. UsableNet found that in the first half of 2025, about two in three digital accessibility lawsuits were against companies with less than $25 million in annual revenue, and that ecommerce accounted for 69% of cases.

An audit can't tell you whether anyone will make a claim, and we make no promises about legal outcomes. What it does show is what's stopping real customers on the pages that make you money, and how to fix it. If you've received a demand letter, talk to a lawyer. Our report can help you and them understand what's wrong on the site.

This is one issue from our sample report for a made-up store. You or your developer can act on it the same day.

The size and color pickers have no name

Who it affects
Screen reader users hear "popup button, Medium" with no idea whether it's the size or the color, so some can't choose the product they want.
Check it yourself
On a Mac, turn on VoiceOver (Command + F5) and press Tab until you reach the size picker. Listen for the word "Size".

How it works

Four steps, all by email. No calls needed unless you want one.

  1. 1. Send your store address

Email us your store and, if you like, the product page you want tested. We confirm the pages with you.

  2. 2. We test

Keyboard, screen readers, zoom, contrast and a scan, on desktop and mobile. No admin access needed.

  3. 3. Get the report

It arrives within 5 business days, with the invoice. Pay by card once you've read it.

  4. 4. Fix, then re-check

You or your developer make the fixes. We re-check the same pages once, free, within 30 days.

Questions store owners ask

Why the shopping path?

It's where a customer browses, chooses and pays for a product. A problem there stops a sale. Most Shopify stores reuse the same templates, so fixing these pages usually fixes the same problem everywhere. Where that's not the case, the report says so.

Do you need access to my Shopify admin?

No. We test the public store like a customer would. We never place orders or enter payment details.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's testing and remediation guidance, not legal advice or a compliance guarantee. If you have a legal question, including a demand letter, please speak to a lawyer.

What about Shopify checkout?

Shopify runs most of checkout itself, and store owners can only change part of it. We test the entry step: going from your cart into checkout and the first screen, up to the payment step. We report on what you control, such as your cart, checkout branding and any checkout apps, and we point out anything that sits with Shopify so you can raise it with their support team.

What if an app causes the problem?

Reviews widgets, pop-ups, chat and upsell apps cause a lot of the problems we find. The report lists app issues in their own section and names the app. Often the fix is an app setting. If it isn't, you can send the finding to the app's developer, or swap to an app that works better.

Who does the testing?

Meridian Labs. Automated scans find roughly a third of accessibility issues, so every page is also tested by hand.

Can you make the fixes for us?

If you'd rather not do them yourself, we can quote a fixed price for the changes in your theme after the audit. Ongoing monthly monitoring is also available, which re-tests your key pages after theme or app updates.

What this audit isn't.

Honest limits, so you know exactly what you're buying.

A certificate or a legal sign-off.

Our audits are testing and remediation guidance, not legal advice or a compliance guarantee. We don't issue certificates or badges. The report says what we found on the pages tested, on the dates tested, and how to fix it.

"Just add this widget."

We don't sell or recommend accessibility overlays or widgets. They don't change the code underneath, and many people who use assistive technology find they get in the way. In January 2025 the FTC ordered one overlay company, accessiBe, to pay $1 million over claims about what its product could do.

It also isn't the whole site. The audit covers your shopping path and the parts that appear on every page. Fixing them usually fixes the same templates across the store, and we'll tell you where it doesn't. Extra templates are US$95 each, or we can quote the whole site.

Send us your store address.

Tell us your store and the product page you'd like tested. We usually reply within one business day to confirm the pages.

Audits are carried out by William Lee for Meridian Labs.
